Champagne Le Brun de Neuville
France - Côte de Sézanne
Since its origin, Le Brun de Neuville has been built around a history of men, women and families of winegrowers with a common desire to reveal the Côte de Sézanne along with the generous and solar identity of its Chardonnays. This adventure of independence know-how and Make-know’ continues at the instigation of Damien Champy and his team in a family spirit that has persisted for more than 60 years.
As all the northern wine growing areas, that of Sézanne area is located on a slope providing a great quantity of solar energy. The differences in altitude between upstream and downstream vineyard slopes in this area are usually situated between 25 and 40 meters.
The villages around Sézanne slope are located in the heart of a circus ring, opened south east, that indent Ile de France coast. They lay on a chalk outcrop, covered by a few centimeters of land, composed with calcite granules. It works as a real water tank, due to its high porosity, bringing enough water to the plant, even during the drier summers. Chalk retains water through capillary action. The vine must push itself to absorb it, causing a moderate water stress during the vegetative season.
All our vine growers are encouraged to adopt sustainable viticulture practices. Grapes from organic vineyards, grown without any herbicides, ploughed and certified “Haute Valeur Environnementale” (HVE) or “Viticulture Durable en Champagne” (VDC). Today, Le Brun de Neuville endeavours to play a significant role in a terroir that deserves to be recognise. The House requires its bottles to rest for at least 36 months, well beyond the 15 months required by law. The vintage and prestige cuvee age more than a decade before released.
